13 Fascinating Places to Visit in Brazil - Pipa Beach (RN)

Go for the fishing, culinary, ecotourism, swimming, beaches, hiking, boating and off-the-beaten-path destination.

Brazil is a country with over 4,600 miles (7,400 km) of coastline and a huge number of awesome beaches. To that point, ranking the most beautiful beaches in Brazil is, to say the least, a very tough quest; even to the most seasoned beach bums. There are many factors to consider when building a rank of top beaches, things like, year-round weather, water temperature, color and granularity of the sand, vegetation and so on; but one of the most important attributes is, in my opinion, its character. And Pipa (pronounced "pee-pah") has it all.

This time it is not just me saying it. Pipa beach has been ranked as one of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil by publications such as "US News", "Tripadvisor", "Condé Nast Traveler" and "US Passport Guide Services" to mention a few. Pipa beach is located in the Northeast state of Rio Grande do Norte, and it is equidistant from two large capitals in Brazil: Natal and João Pessoa. You can reach Pipa village within 2 hours after landing on one of these capital's airports.

The beach village of Pipa has a bit of a Greek vibe, several bars and restaurants and a pretty famous night life. If you are looking for a quiet fishermen's village, then Pipa is probably not for you.

Besides Pipa beach, there is a great number of other beautiful beaches both North and South of Pipa. Whether you are into surfing (Amor and Madero Beaches), swimming with dolphins (Praia dos Golfinhos) or just relaxing on a quiet spot (Center Beach), you will be amazed with any beach of your choice.

Once in Pipa, you don't want to miss the opportunity to visit the Ecological Sanctuary and enjoy some of the 14 hiking trails it offers: Jacú Way, Pirate Way, White Girl Path, Boa constrictor, Peroba Walk, Old Castle Stairway, Armadillo Trail, Firefly Flight, Chameleon Trail, Trail da Aventura (for children only), Descent of Maracajá and Caminho do Chorró. Each trail is followed by a difficulty level, so make sure you take the ones that will be best for you.

One other great fact about Pipa, is its proximity to our Saltwater flyfishing destination for Tarpon on the Cuimataú River. As a matter of a fact, we want you to fish with us, but also spend time experimenting and experiencing our top beaches. For our 5-day fishing trip, you can choose to either stay at Pipa Village (about 30 minutes from our boat launch location) or stay at Barra do Cunhaú (a quiet fishermen's village from where we start our trips); or you can stay a few days at each location. That's a perfect trip to bring friends and family, angler's or non-anglers!
