Australians, Canadians and US Citizens will need an Entry VISA to Brazil!

Updated: 5 days ago

Attention! Attention! Citizens of Australia, Canada and the United States! It is now confirmed, effective on April 10, 2025, the Brazilian Government resumes the requirement of an entry VISA for visitors (VIVIS). Unless you alredy have a valid Brazilian VISA, you will need to apply for one to travel for leisure in Brazil.

Once granted, all visiting VISA allow for a stay of up to 90 consecutive days in the country.

Before I drill down on this subject, it is importante that you read and consult the official and most updated information provided by the U.S. Depatment of State and by the Brazilian Federal Government.

There are currently two ways that you can request an entry VISA for Brazil: 1 - You can get it via your closest Brazilian Embassy or Consulate, or 2 - You can request an eVISA, online.

To be able to request an entry VISA via a consulate, you will need to reside within that consulate's jurisdiction (please check details on your consulate's webpage and always contact the consulate via email or phone prior to initiating the process). For you reference, the current list of consulates in the U.S. are: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Hartford (Rhode Island), Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco and Washington.

Now, the eVISA is the newest way to request the VIVIS. Following the link provided early on this bog, you will be transfered to a page managed by VFS. That page will contain all the information you need to succeed. But, if you have problems, here are some tips to follow:

  • Use the Chat option located on the bottom-left corner of the page.

  • Contact VSF by email, phone or submitt a complaint by form.

  • Click on the "Sign-In" buttom (top-right corner) to initiate your request process. Ignore the temptation to click on "Apply eVisa now"; which oftentimes never loads.

  • The software should be compatible with major browsers, such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox and etc. However, in my case, Firefox worked the best. If you still have problems, try using your Smart Phone.

  • Prepare all the documents beforehand and be ready to start the upload once the online form requests them.

I hope the process is smooth and painless, and if not, I hope this article will be of some help. Feel free to reach out and share other tips.

Whether a VISA is needed or not, I look forward to see you in Brazil, enjoying our nature and food, and visiting some cool fishing locations with us.
